Ashley Shields (ex Basket Gdynia) agreed terms with Atenienses

Atenienses de Manatee (BSNF) strengthened their roster with addition of 31-year old American shooting guard Ashley Shields (180-85, college: SW Tenn.St.CC). She played most recently at Basket Gdynia in Polish TBLK. Shields managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 7 TBLK games she recorded 13.9ppg, 4.1rpg and 2.7apg. She also played 2 games in EEWBL where she averaged impressive 23.5ppg, 6.0rpg, 4.0apg and 2.5spg. The other team Shields played that season for was Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion in Israeli D1. In 20 games she had very remarkable stats: 17.3ppg, 8.7rpg, 6.0apg and 2.7spg. Great season indeed as she was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Israeli League Honorable Mention.
In 2007 she was drafted by Houston Comets (WNBA) in first round (8th overall).
The former Southwestern Tennessee State CC (JUCO) staris in her tenth season in pro basketball.
She won Israeli League championship title in 2012.
Shields is a very experienced player. She has played also professionally in Greece, Slovakia (Good Angels), WNBA (Dallas Wings, Houston C. and Los Angeles Sparks) and Israel (Maccabi Ramat Gan, Maccabi Ashdod, ASA Jerusalem and Elitzur Netanya) and Poland (Tecza Leszno).
The scouts decsribe her following way: Ashley is a fierce competitor. She has such a fiery attitude that you know something is going to happen and her competitive drive is so contagious. Ashley is a tremendous athlete and outstanding defender.
